Thank You from Hillel Lodge Residents

Hi Kita Alef,

I am so proud of how you are all managing to continue learning from home these days.

You are such a wonderful group of children and your ability to make others happy shines through with your little acts of kindness towards each other (your patience during our Google Meet, contacting each other to chat), your family (Helping your siblings and your parents), your teachers (sharing your thoughts and working together) and your community (like the pictures we sent Hillel Lodge Residents)..

The pictures made them very very happy. Knowing we thought of them at this time meant so much to them.

Marilyn Adler wanted me to share this with you:

“On behalf of the Residents of Hillel Lodge please extend a warm and appreciative thank you to all the students in Kitah Alef for creating beautiful cards to share with the Residents.  We are all aware that at this time the students are not attending school which makes it even more heartwarming to know that the Residents of the Lodge continue to be in their thoughts. Keep well and take care everyone.”

See you tomorrow,

Morah Ada.

Workout with Micah

Hi Kitah Alef,

Micha (from Grade 2) made a warm up video.

There are so many skills to learn when creating and sharing a video.

Can you think of some….

If you tried the video you can give Micah feedback through google hangout, or write him on chat.

…and here is another one:

Cette semaine… mars 2-6

Bonjour!

This week’s homework involves a Flipgrid! You may access the grid using your child’s OJCS email address and this link: https://flipgrid.com/b4f8caeb

For the grid:

In French, pick a day of the week. Tell your audience which day of the week it is, as well as which day comes before and will come after. Tell your audience what the weather was that day. Watch the video as a guide.

Last minute Siddur Party details

Woohoo! We are less nervous now that we had a few rehearsals in the gym … and we were great!

Please try to have your child/children at school as close to 8:30am as possible.

I am linking you to the children’s sitting arrangement so you can plan your spot. I recommend that you sit opposite to where your child is on the stage, so you see them better (i.e., if your child is on the right side of our semicircle, you are better off sitting on the left side of the stage.

Also, we ask that the children wear their nice clothes for the celebration (NO track pants or hoodies).

If they rather wear their uniform that is ok as well; however, please make sure it is with no stains or holes, and use a white shirt.

To save their nice clothes, we ask that they bring uniform with them, to change into after our celebration.

Looking forward to having you join us on this special day!

Winter Fun Day!

Good morning Grade 1 parents and students!

Our exciting Winter Fun Day is quickly approaching and before we can fully immerse ourselves in the wonder of snow and ice… We need consent forms filled and returned. I have printed paper copies for those who have not handed back in and extended the return date to Friday, February 7th, 2020. These copies will be coming home tonight.

As mentioned in a recent email you can indicate on the form whether your child wishes to partake in skating or tobogganing so we can allocate appropriate numbers of staff to each activity.

Regardless of the activity,  helmets MUST be worn.

Thank you for your continued support,

Miss M

Cette semaine… janvier 13-17

Bonjour!

I hope you all had a nice break and are getting back into the rhythm of school!

In class, we have started talking about simple and complex sounds, in French. Over the next few weeks, your child will be receiving “Le sons du jour” packets that covers sounds we have been reviewing. This week’s packet includes the sounds “ou”, “on”, and “in”. Each page follows a similar formula:

  1. Read the sentence. Circle the sound.
  2. Re-write the sentence.
  3. Draw the sentence.
  4. Fill in the missing sound.
  5. Read the words out loud. Colour the picture when you are done.

Your child can listen to the sentences below:

ou:

Proud Teacher Moment

What an amazing feeling it is to walk in on my students during recess and find  a few of them playing (IN HEBREW) a game I used with them yesterday to practice hebrew vocabulary.

They truly exemplify OJCS’s star – “We own our own learning. We own our own stories.”

And to make matters BETTER. As I was writing about this, I heard my students using the Hebrew song I taught them for lining up during transition time in another class.

My heart feels so fulfilled at this moment! My dream (having OJCS students using Hebrew NOT ONLY in Hebrew class) is coming true…

I am truely soooo proud!

TODA YELADIM! 😘

Modeh/Modah Ani…

What beautiful singing during  our morning T’filah today.

I asked the kids to tape them so we can put it on the blog for those who need practice.

So… If youre child is new to this T’filah, please have them listen to this once in a while.

…and you can listen simply for the joy of it…

Ani Modah every morning for being these wonderful kids’ teacher. 🙂

What are you thankfull for when you wake up in the morning? Please help your child share their answer in the comments on our blog.

Here is the recording:
