Shanah Tovah

Hi everyone!

It is definately a different begining in Kitah Alef this year!

We are all working togerher on keeping distance and helping each other by being respectful of each other’s space, keeping our masks on, using only the tools asigned to us and so much more.  Every day we come across new situations that require ‘covid time sollutions’ and together, we figure it out… We definately have to be creative in our thought.

So far, our Kitah Alef students are demonstarting kindness, patience, respect, curiousity, and so much more that makes it a joy learn together.

We created a kindness web in a cursive Alef to remind us to always be kind… and we are already practicing acts of kindness in class and in our OJCS community…

We heard that Kitah Gimel really wanted to play on the structures so we offered to switch spaces with them on Fridays… It was so nice to see how happy we made them today.

We are slowly getting into our routines and are looking forward to meeting you all on our virtual Back to School Night and tell you some more about our year.

May it be a healthy year filled with family and friends.

Is Your Child Hitting the Brick Wall?

Our Director of Special Education, Sharon Reichstein has recently added an excellent post to her blog that is a must read. Please take a moment to read it in its entirety. It has some tips on how to navigate the last 3 weeks of school along with some resources on how to reduce stress.

Thank-you for being great partners during this very difficult and challenging time.

Distance Learning Charoset Making

What a fun start to our day.
We will definitely need to continue cooking/baking together during our distance learning together.

My husband had so much fun joining us and together with you, the students and their parents, learn Ivrit while making charoset for Pesach.

A few of you already toldwrote me you will make it again during the holiday.

Now put your thinking caps on, what other simple recipes would you like to make together? If you have an idea let me know in the comments or email me the recipe (Try to figure out the words for the ingredients in Hebrew).

Have a lovely day,
Ada.

Thank You from Hillel Lodge Residents

Hi Kita Alef,

I am so proud of how you are all managing to continue learning from home these days.

You are such a wonderful group of children and your ability to make others happy shines through with your little acts of kindness towards each other (your patience during our Google Meet, contacting each other to chat), your family (Helping your siblings and your parents), your teachers (sharing your thoughts and working together) and your community (like the pictures we sent Hillel Lodge Residents)..

The pictures made them very very happy. Knowing we thought of them at this time meant so much to them.

Marilyn Adler wanted me to share this with you:

“On behalf of the Residents of Hillel Lodge please extend a warm and appreciative thank you to all the students in Kitah Alef for creating beautiful cards to share with the Residents.  We are all aware that at this time the students are not attending school which makes it even more heartwarming to know that the Residents of the Lodge continue to be in their thoughts. Keep well and take care everyone.”

See you tomorrow,

Morah Ada.

Some info regarding tomorrow and the coming weeks.

Hi everyone,

We hope you are all well and finding positive ways to deal with our new reality.
We are all working hard to create some learning consistency and routine to our students and you, the parents.
We understand that each family’s situation is unique and will try our best to accommodate you.
By tomorrow afternoon you will receive our weekly plan with more detailed explanation as to the expectations and our availability.
We will continue to treat the days as school days and will be available for the kids throughout, to assist in any way we can.
With regards to getting things from school tomorrow. It is not a necessity, given that some can make it and some cannot. If you do come, you are welcome to pick up their Siddur, but it is not a necessity. The rest will be on line for you to print as we go along. This is new territory for us to learn together, collaborate and communicate regularly. As always, we are looking forward to working with all of you to make this happen in the best possible way.
Take care and…
Grade 1 team.
